film talk!

To our beloved fans and followers....

We hate to have to do this but unfortunately J’Kerian and I are going to have to put film talk on hiatus.  We have realized that we just do not have the time to give to this show that it needs and deserves.  We are not completely removing the option of starting it back up again at a later date (maybe over the summer when we have more free time) but for right now we just aren’t able to do it justice.

If anyone has any comments or questions for us we’ll gladly take them.

We are very sorry and will deeply miss doing the show.

Until next time,

Katie and J’Kerian

Update: Christopher Nolan's Inception

In our previous post, we told you that Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film Inception has a teaser trailer that you won’t be able to see until next week or so…unless you see Inglorious Basterds (you should, I’ve heard). Well, now there’s a website for the film, though it doesn’t show much just yet.

Nolan is really keeping this one shrouded in mystery. It’s very exciting to me, especially in this age where it seems so impossible to do such a thing.

Anyway, we’ll definitely be posting the teaser once it becomes available online, so subscribe to our blog (and tell your friends to do the same)!

In Case You Missed It

This week on Film Talk!, we discussed the following topics:

  • Joe Johnston (Jumanji, The Rocketeer)’s The Wolfman trailer is out! View it at Yahoo Movies. The film hits theatres February 12, 2010, and stars Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, Anthony Hopkins, & Hugo Weaving
  • Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story also has a trailer. That one can be viewed here.
  • Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Inception has a teaser trailer out, but you won’t be able to see it online for a while. You can, however, see it when you’re at that Inglorious Basterds screening.
  • The Toronto Film Festival is coming up September 10 (and will run until September 19). Amongst those to be screened are Haneke’s Palme d’Or-winning film The White Ribbon and von Trier’s Antichrist. Ticket information for the festival is available here.
  • We also reviewed Marc Webb’s (500) Days of Summer. We liked it a lot.

Unfortunately, I forgot to record our show for this week. Continue listening this Fall on Tuesday evenings, 8:30-9:00 P.M.!

Here it is, folks. The trailer for the last film Heath Ledger will ever be in, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarian of Dr. Parnassus. It looks very promising! Share your thoughts, we’re curious.

Other very exciting trailers of note: apparently-slimmed-down Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, based on the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold. And, even better, The Cohen Bros.’ A Serious Man.

A Few Things

I am very excited to present the following news items to you all, dear readers!

  • A new trailer, as well as an exclusive featurette, for Spike Jonze’s upcoming film Where the Wild Things Are is available. In the featurette, author Maurice Sendak talks about how perfect Jonze is for the project. See them in glorious HD over at Apple trailers. Get very excited. Where the Wild Things Are hits theatres October 16.
  • As you may or may not know, Machete, the film we all hoped would come as we watched the mock trailers from Quentin Tarantino’s and Robert Rodriguez’s joint effort Grindhouse, is actually becoming a film. Shooting starts this month, too. In Austin. The cast is supposed to include Danny Trejo (obviously), Jonah Hill, Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, and, GET THIS, Lindsay Lohan. I’m personally very excited about that last one. Maybe we really can be best friends. It’s all I want. Even though The Austinist suggests I take cover.

Be sure to listen to this week’s episode of Film Talk! (Hint: It’s the previous post. The one below this one.)

Sony has released a red band (18+) trailer for their upcoming film Zombieland. I would usually give a synopsis, but I think watching the trailer would be enough. (Sorry about the age thing.) Zombieland hits theatres October 9.

In Case You Didn't Already Know

  • Yes, we have been bad about posting our shows in a timely manner. Yes, you can direct yourself to soundcloud.com/filmtalk to hear them all (tell your friends)!
  • August 18 at 8 P.M., The Austin Film Society, Original Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, Ain’t It Cool News and SXSW will present the World Premiere of Miramax Films’ Extract, the latest comedy from writer/director and Austinite Mike Judge (Office Space, King of the Hill, Idiocracy). Information about how to be there (and not be square) can be found here. The trailer is there as well.
  • Speaking of SXSW, the new site is live! And until September 25, registration will be the cheapest it will ever be, with Film Badges starting at just $325.

Well, folks. I think that’s all we’ve got until next time! Be sure to listen to Film Talk! Thursday at 8:30 P.M. CST on 91.7 FM or online at kvrx.org!
