To our beloved fans and followers....
We hate to have to do this but unfortunately J’Kerian and I are going to have to put film talk on hiatus. We have realized that we just do not have the time to give to this show that it needs and deserves. We are not completely removing the option of starting it back up again at a later date (maybe over the summer when we have more free time) but for right now we just aren’t able to...

Update: Christopher Nolan's Inception
In our previous post, we told you that Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film Inception has a teaser trailer that you won’t be able to see until next week or so…unless you see Inglorious Basterds (you should, I’ve heard). Well, now there’s a website for the film, though it doesn’t show much just yet.
Nolan is really keeping this one shrouded in mystery....

Here it is, folks. The trailer for the last film Heath Ledger will ever be in, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarian of Dr. Parnassus. It looks very promising! Share your thoughts, we’re curious.
Other very exciting trailers of note: apparently-slimmed-down Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, based on the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold. And, even better, The Cohen Bros.’ A...

Today, at Disney’s Comic-Con panel, Tim Burton unveiled the first short teaser trailer for his upcoming film Alice in Wonderland. So far you cannot tell much of what is in store in this film but you do get a good collection of clips featuring some of the important charters; Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen, Stephen Fry’s Cheshire Cat, a short glimpse at Anne Hathaway’s White Queen and...
Yet Another Compilation
Dear readers,
We apologize for not updating this blog as often as we probably should. Unfortunately, there just isn’t a whole lot of noteworthy news at the moment. All that’s happening are remakes, “re-imaginings,” and toy movies, and we certainly don’t want to update just for the sake of updating, in effect, wasting both your time and ours. There are a few things of...

Wanna See 500 Days of Summer?
/Film has released the release schedule. It hits Austin Friday, July 26. In related news, there’s this funny video that’s really funny. Gordon-Levitt & Deschanel play Sid & Nancy. It’s really funny. Unlike the rejected commencement speech from James Franco.
Drama, Drama, Drama
It’s been a while since we’ve shared some news, so I’m just going to compile a bunch of it right now. Trailers are nice, but gossip is better, yes?
Gawker has gotten to the bottom of the drama surrounding Moneyball, Soderbergh’s newest, and its cancellation merely five days before shooting. Basically, the film doesn’t deal with mundane subject matter, so the studio...

Sundance Standout is Precious
Based on the novel Push by Sapphire, Precious is a film about a pregnant teenager from an abusive home. Eric Kohn over at indiewire reviewed the film during its Sundance screening and had this to say about it: “A movie of many textures, each one illuminating the emotionally gripping narrative at its core. Lee Daniels directs with bold strokes that could go wrong at any moment, but...

The Informant! Gets a Trailer
If you’re any kind of Soderbergh fan, you’ve probably heard of his most recent, The Informant!, a film based on the book (The Informant by Kurt Eichenwald) based on the life of Mark Whitacre, who stopped Archer Daniels Midland in their tracks for their price-fixing policies. Have no idea what I’m talking about? Click here for more info. Anyway, here’s the trailer!

The Academy Receives 134 New Members, No One Cares
The entity we all love, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has invited a whopping 134 new members to their ranks. Indiewire reports that amongst the invited are Casey Affleck, Viola Davis, Brendan Gleeson, Taraji P. Henson, and⎯get this⎯Michael Cera.
Now we can all rest assured that the Academy Awards will continue to actually have some sort of merit.

The Box Gets a Trailer
Well, Richard Kelly has been making quite a name for himself in recent years. After the cult classic Donnie Darko and the less effective Southland Tales, the director comes at us with The Box, a film about a couple (played by Cameron Diaz and James Marsden) that receives a mysterious box which encloses a button. What’s so fascinating about this button? Upon pressing it, two things occur: 1)...

According to Variety, It’s set for a limited release on October 23, limited meaning only New York and Los Angeles,...

Ryan Reynolds to Star in Thriller Buried
It’s always nice when actors that tend to go the more Hollywood route end up doing something really challenging and new for themselves. /Film reports that Ryan Reynolds (Adventureland, The Proposal) will star in upcoming film Buried, in a role that’s sure to come as a challenge, much like his role in The Nines. The film is about a civilian contractor in Iraq who is kidnapped and...

Film Talk! Week Four
This week’s topic is book movies! Our main point of discourse revolves around the question of and debate surrounding how far a director or studio should/could go with their own interpretations of the text and how audiences are affected by said interpretations.
Does it always matter whether or not the film is an exact replica of the book? When should deviation be avoided, and when...
Sid Ganis on Academy's Big New Decision
Indiewire has posted an interesting interview with Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and his recent decision to expand the number of Best Picture nominees to ten.
“In a move he considers among the greatest accomplishments of his four year run, Ganis presided over the Academy’s decision to expand the best picture category to ten nominations. In the...
Movieline Blasts Transformers Sequel
Need more reasons not to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Movieline has posted nine, the most offensive of which is quoted below:
“There are two robots in the film called Mudflap and Skids, and despite being red and green, respectively, they are voiced in a way that clearly designates them to be the “black” robots. Also, Skids has a gold front tooth (no, I’m serious) and...
