Film Talk! Week Four
This week’s topic is book movies! Our main point of discourse revolves around the question of and debate surrounding how far a director or studio should/could go with their own interpretations of the text and how audiences are affected by said interpretations.
Does it always matter whether or not the film is an exact replica of the book? When should deviation be avoided, and when shouldn’t it? These are all questions we did not answer on our show. We did, however, discuss them to no end.
Films/books mentioned were the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, American Psycho, The Reader, Where the Wild Things Are, The Fountainhead, Twilight, The Time Traveler’s Wife.
